The Pergamo Paper Goods website is getting a makeover! I'm sorry to say I've been neglecting it over the past few months while I've been working on figuring out Etsy. Since I've gotten somewhat of a grasp on that, and taken a bunch of new pictures, I can take some of the things I've learned over there to spruce up my website again.
The first thing I've accomplished is changing the "theme" of the site and re-doing the home page. I was feeling very annoyed about the way the page looked on my phone, so I came up with the three image composition which I think looks good on the computer and on mobile. I also changed the navigation menu to the side while on desktop.
Here is my plan of action:
1. Change theme ✓
2. Fix home page ✓
3. Add categories for new products: stickers, pillows, magnets, jewelry
4. Populate those categories!
5. Update pictures for cards and prints
This might take me a few weeks, but it should happen soon since it's one of my top priorities right now. Until then, check out my page on etsy if something is missing on here...

This week's Friday Feature is Mermaid Bay Mercantile! You can find Mermaid Bay at 3107 Gulf Blvd (the main street of this charming little town), just a stone's throw away from the historic Gulfport Casino. Mermaid Bay is run by the wonderful and hilarious Andrea Farnum, who I always love visiting. She can tell you about any of the great handcrafted products and art in her store and about the makers behind these things. She tells great stories, too! Her staff and her husband are extremely sweet and likeable as well. Yay for nice people!
This week's Friday Feature is Carbon Environmental Boutique! Right now they are my only stockist located in Canada, and I feel proud having my goods sold at their eco-friendly shop. They stock a variety of sustainable, ethically sourced, and non-toxic wares, making sure that each product adheres to the highest environmental standards. This is awesome, and what's more awesome is that even with their strict screening process, they sell a lot of cool stuff! Stuff for adults and babies, stuff for the home, stuff for your tummy (I mean to eat and drink, haha!), stuff for your body, stuff for your walls, stuff for your friends' walls... It's actually really inspiring that people are making and buying while consciously thinking about what impact they will have on the environment. It's not everywhere that you can get zero VOC paint for your walls and perfectly natural cleaning products... plus some healthy snacks and drinks to keep your energized while you paint and clean! How about some sustainably sourced art to hang on your walls, or jewelry to hang on your body? Also, they have a ton of awesome of pop up events, like coffee and olive oil tasting! Sign me up!
Today's "Friday Feature" is Dustmuffin in Los Angeles, California. I've never had the pleasure of visiting Dustmuffin in person, mainly because I've only been to LA once, and for less than a day (I spent my time there going to the Getty Museum and seeing an improv show). But ONE DAY (and hopefully sooner rather than later) I will actually get to spend some time exploring the city, and seeing the cute shops, and visiting Dustmuffin.
My favorite kind of store, Dustmuffin blends vintage items with new gifts, art, cards, jewelry, and more. From their website, "Run by husband and wife team, Kerry Vitello and James Clark, and their partner Diana Jacobs, Dustmuffin was opened in April 2011. Its mission is to bring a fun and enchanting feel to boutique shopping, where the warm Mistral of the southern French countryside meets Cape Cod’s relaxing salty air. Whether finding new designers in Europe, trendsetters in Los Angeles, or scouring estate sales and auctions on the East Coast, the Dustmuffins all share the task of sourcing the best of the best for their customers. Dustmuffin proudly supports other small businesses and loves being able to tell customers that their new “must have” is made up the street or in a small studio a few states away. Fans of Dustmuffin are always surprised with the innovative and creative gift ideas on display, the thought put into choosing each item and the ever-changing inventory. The Artist Receptions are some of the most popular nights at the store and offer locally created artwork that’s not to be missed. Stop by and say hello or just pop in to browse...we can’t wait to meet you!"
I am really into the variety of ceramic animals they keep in their store... so cute! Also there's some really amazing jewelry. If you don't live in California, you can check them out via their website, plus they post lots of pics on facebook too. Also literally all their yelp reviews are five stars... Adam F. says "Hands down the best gift shop / mini men's shoppe / things for toddlers / interesting art pieces / loads of ladythings too / curiosities parlour in Los Angeles. But the real gem here are the shopkeeps: James, Kerry (and Charlotte the pit) are helpful, delightful, and chock full of interesting stories to share and things to say about their wares. Just be nice to them, that's all." Sarah L. says "This lovely shop is expertly curated with vintage treasures, jewelry, children's clothing and toys, gifts, artwork, and more. Exceptional customer service. Great location. Dog and kid friendly. Swoon!"
I just wanted to share that I'm going to have two pieces included in the next show at Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, FL. This show will include several local artists. I am excited because Cigar City Beer is really good and so the opening reception this Friday should be a lot of fun! I will be there as well as many of the other artists so if you are able, come by on Friday! Otherwise the show will be up through November 4th.
Celebrate a night of local art with some of the best craft beer in Tampa. Join The Creative Life Project at Cigar City Brewing on September 2nd, starting at 7pm. We will be hosting a new installation of local up and coming artists in the Krausen Parlor Gallery space.

This week's Friday Feature is Presents of Mind in Portland, OR! They are located on historic Hawthorne Blvd and stock their store with unique items from local makers as well as other independent designers (like me!). They have gifts for everyone, including t-shirts, cool socks, plants, stationery, kids items, and jewelry. Both locals and tourists love this store. I hope I can get to Portland sometime soon so that I can see it myself!
I found the above photos on their facebook page... wow there are so many cool things! I'd be very interested in smelling some of those candles, and the airplants are so cute!
Here are some really nice yelp reviews that make me want to go there even more:
"Perfect store to find that thing you never knew you needed. They have a great amount of weird random items, cards, coffee mugs, soaps, jewelry and accessories. You will definitely want to take your time because every shelf has its own unique items. They even have a bit of a children's section." - Mikhail H.
"What a great shop! I would be in heaven if I lived in Portland and was within walking distance of this joint. It's quirky, and cool, chic, and fun. I bought birthday presents for people who's birthdays are months away! If you check in on yelp you get a 20% off coupon, but don't be a dope like me and forget to use it! I bought an awesome cookbook on baking with booze, yah! A super cute dish towel with two owls on it, and the item everyone needs...a pin for your hoodie which features a penguin sitting on a boat! Great prices I'd say, I don't recall being hit by sticker shock so it was all good. So much stuff I wanted to buy just because it was cute, or cool, but I only have so much room at home ya know? They have an amazing selection of quirky t-shirts, I kind of regret not getting a couple :( Def stop in if you're a local or a kind of tourist pretending to be local like me. It's a must!" - Jamie R.
"They have the coolest dresses, and they're reasonably priced. It is a great place to find gifts for all ages. They have cards and gift wrap as well." - Lindsey F.
Favor is the retail side of owner Caramia Visick's Hotcakes Design Jewelry, where she creates bold, colorful carved resin jewelry. She creates all the jewelry at her studio and shop Favor in Berkeley, California. Doesn't it look good enough to eat? The colors are so great!
Besides selling her beautiful jewelry, Caramia stocks jewelry, accessories, and trinkets from other artists around the world!
I haven't had the pleasure of going into Favor in person, but Caramia is a pleasure on the phone. I bet she's great in person too! And the shop looks so beautiful in these photos. I hope the next time I'm in California I can go!
There's some really nice Yelp reviews about Favor, too. Here's an excerpt from Shoole S., "Favor is a well curated treasure trove of wearable and useable art. Everything is handmade, much of it locally. They have unique and playful jewelry, coin purses, makeup bags, cards, decorative accents, and more. It's the kind of place you might visit, intending just to pick up a present for a friend, but also leaving with a little something for yourself (and there is nothing wrong with that.) The pricing is very reasonable for hand made quality pieces, plus, it is always nice to support local artist. The owner really knows her stuff and was even able to customize some earrings for me. "
And Beth T. says "What a delightful store! Favor is now my "go to" for gifts for my female friends. The store is chocked full with locally-made jewelry (much of it made right on site, in the studio just behind the retail floor). The owner is friendly and helpful, providing lots of information without ever being pushy. The prices are quite reasonable for the high quality you find there. You could pick up a simple necklace or set of earrings for around $25 or go for something more intricate or with finer materials for $30-$50. The space is bright and cheerfully decorated; and all in all, I say that Favor is a wonderful addition to the increasingly interesting local retail offerings on San Pablo in West Berkeley."
Actually, all the reviews are five stars! I'm quite honored to have some of my things displayed in such a lovely space.
Each month there is an exhibition with several pieces from a featured artist. The exhibition opening usually coincides with Second Saturday Art Walk, so it's like a great art party! Right now it's Jack King with his exhibit Crossing the Barriers. He has a variety of mixed media free standing and wall sculptures that reference transition and migration.
I started working with Michele last year and am excited to be partnering with her for this year's St. Pete Sunrise Sale on Thursday, July 21st! I will be set up outside the gallery offering really steep discounts such as BOGO art prints until 10am! Also we will have coffee and donuts :) Make sure to stop by and say hi to me and to Michele (she's so fun!)
