This won't surprise anyone that knows me, but I've been thinking about dogs a lot lately. Obviously I am super into animals; I love looking at them, petting them, drawing them, learning about them, etc. But I can't have an alligator or a squirrel or boar in my house. I don't even think I'd want to, because dogs are the best. If I could have Sophie with me all the time, I would, because she is my favorite person, even if she's not a person.
Anyway, I keep thinking about dogs because a few weeks ago I was at an event my aunt was selling jewelry at and I started talking to the people at AnimalLuvr's Dream Rescue. AnimalLuvr's fixes up sick or hurt animals so that they have a chance at finding a family. I couldn't help it; I signed up to be a foster dog-mom. And tonight after work I am picking up a little dog at the vet that I get to bring home and spoil until she finds a forever home. And I AM SO EXCITED! There will definitely be pictures to come. I've been making a lot of pug paintings in the last few weeks and I am wondering if this new dog will sit still enough that I can make a painting of her. I've been doing tiny tiny 2" paintings on canvas- actual acrylic paintings, not collage and acrylic, and I'm liking some of them. I'm wondering if I can work some of them into my Pergamo Paper Goods stuff or what. Maybe I can do a series of paintings of foster dogs. I'm also going to bring her to a benefit/adoption event on Sunday and I'm very excited to pet all the dogs (and try not to adopt all of them). I was also considering fostering with Florida Pug Rescue, but I feel like AnimalLuvr's probably needs more help if it's something I can handle. We will see if I can even do this without getting too attached.
I know it's only October, but I am definitely thinking about Christmas and Hanukkah - a little late even, I might add. I was just able to send out my new holiday catalog to retail stores today, so they can get cards for when people need to buy them. I have the catalog available online and can send out printed copies too to any stores that need them.
Holiday cards will go up on the website and on etsy to be bought online early November. There will also be some holiday specials involving buying art prints and getting free cards... more on that later. What do we have this year? We have: a happy holidays deer with a snowman, a holiday party with many different animals, a cat and a Christmas tree, a happy holidays Santa pug, a happy Hanukkah pug with a menorah, Hanukkah geese, season's greetings sledding foxes, an alligator outside a gift shop, a fox in a rocking chair next to a Christmas tree, another alligator surrounded by presents, Hanukkah ducks, a Hanukkah raccoon, a sledding otter (no text at all), a raccoon with hot cocoa (also no text at all), a fox wearing a candle wreath, a happy holidays wreath, then straight, lesbian, and gay mistletoe cards. They gay mistletoe moose is consistently the holiday favorite, but my favorites are the Hanukkah pug and the sledding otter. Oh and the candle wreath fox, who is really great.
Obviously I will have all those cards with me for November and December shows, both as individual cards and as sets. I am also going to have some new products debuting at these holiday sales! There are going to be small circular mirrors to keep in your pocket or purse, which will be a cute gift item. I'm making some new art to go on the mirrors, and will have a variety of styles available so I can see what people like. I will have extra pug designs, too, since I am going to be at Pugsgiving on November 7th! This is very exciting for me and an excuse to be making a silly amount of new pug stuff.
