This won't surprise anyone that knows me, but I've been thinking about dogs a lot lately. Obviously I am super into animals; I love looking at them, petting them, drawing them, learning about them, etc. But I can't have an alligator or a squirrel or boar in my house. I don't even think I'd want to, because dogs are the best. If I could have Sophie with me all the time, I would, because she is my favorite person, even if she's not a person.
Anyway, I keep thinking about dogs because a few weeks ago I was at an event my aunt was selling jewelry at and I started talking to the people at AnimalLuvr's Dream Rescue. AnimalLuvr's fixes up sick or hurt animals so that they have a chance at finding a family. I couldn't help it; I signed up to be a foster dog-mom. And tonight after work I am picking up a little dog at the vet that I get to bring home and spoil until she finds a forever home. And I AM SO EXCITED! There will definitely be pictures to come. I've been making a lot of pug paintings in the last few weeks and I am wondering if this new dog will sit still enough that I can make a painting of her. I've been doing tiny tiny 2" paintings on canvas- actual acrylic paintings, not collage and acrylic, and I'm liking some of them. I'm wondering if I can work some of them into my Pergamo Paper Goods stuff or what. Maybe I can do a series of paintings of foster dogs. I'm also going to bring her to a benefit/adoption event on Sunday and I'm very excited to pet all the dogs (and try not to adopt all of them). I was also considering fostering with Florida Pug Rescue, but I feel like AnimalLuvr's probably needs more help if it's something I can handle. We will see if I can even do this without getting too attached.
Friday evening was the Tampa Bay Etsy Craft Party, hosted at the Coliseum in St. Petersburg. What a wonderful event! I had not even known about etsy craft parties until this year, and it was so cool! There were a ton of vendors, all of whom were talented in their own media and happy, friendly people. There were also craft demos, which seemed awesome, but I was too busy at my own booth to participate (not going to complain there!). It was really an amazing turnout- I definitely did not expect that many people.
The last few weeks I had been prepping for this show. It was my first indoor show of the year, and I wanted to make sure I had enough ways to display my work, especially all the art prints. It's not completely perfect yet, but it turned out to be a pretty good setup!
Another thing I had been prepping was a piece inspired by Sophie (my beauty pug) and her newest boyfriend, Wrigley (a very handsome, but obviously quite short dachshund owned by my friend Emily of Strings of Tampa Bay). I thought it might fall through, but at the last minute I got prints of this piece which I am calling "Love Pups" made and they are now available for sale!
All in all, it was a great sale. I got to talk to a bunch of nice people, both vendors and customers. Everyone was in such a great mood! I got to spend a few hours with Emily, and we had tasty tasty snacks. And let's not forget, I made some $$$! Haha. But in all honesty, it was super fun, and I hope to do more events like this- I hope especially that TBEC organizes another event soon, and that all the craft parties can be in such a beautiful venue as the Coliseum!
Today is Sophie the beauty pug's sixth birthday! We celebrated with tacos and ice cream cake. We love you, Soph!
